Your Bio

Welcome! As you can see from my galleries, I shoot a lot of different subjects. Almost all, however, are taken while outdoors. You might say photography is my excuse for just getting out there, because once there, I never know what I'm going to find. And with a little skill and a lot of luck, I might actually be able to capture some images to share.

Please come in and browse around, and all comments are greatly appreciated, by the way.

Thanks for looking!

Nature - Interpretive : In my Interpretive gallery, I want to present nature a little bit differently. Sometimes, it involves a shooting technique in the field. Other times I'm creating with my favorite photo editor on the computer. Either way, things are certainly different here.

Galleries

Birds : Birds. To me, they are an absolute marvel. They are not just beautiful, but they're smart and can be entertaining, as well. I love to shoot them, but they can be a challenge. The light, the pose, the activity, the background, the clarity and sharpness, all have to come together to make a beautiful composition. If it doesn't happen, well, I guess that's why I keep coming back. I hope to convey some of their diverse beauty and habitat in my photos. Some might even impart a mood or maybe just an appreciation for my winged wonders.

Reptiles and Amphibians : Maybe the best title for the gallery should be "Animals That Freak People Out". They crawl, slither and can appear quite dangerous, but in my experience if you respect them, you'll not be harmed but you will definitely be in awe of these creatures.

Georgia Mountain Excursion : I recently spent a week in the mountains near Trent, Georgia. It was a very challenging week, photographically speaking. I'll just have to go back and try for more keepers!

Architecture : I don't shoot a lot of architecture. Well, actually I do shoot a good bit, but I try to present only the most interesting of my shots. I have more work to do in this gallery, so look for future submissions in this category.

Insects and Spiders : Most of this work could be considered close-up photography. Sometimes I achieve it by using special macrophotographic equipment and techniques. Other times I just point a telephoto lens at the subject and get my close-ups that way. In some cases, I have also used special techniques at the computer to get more depth of field or perhaps increase detail. I'm also fascinated with the colors of nature, and insects and spiders can show that more than just about any other animals I know.

Landscapes : Shooting landscapes can be very challenging. The light, the wind and the subject matter have to be right to be able to capture a stunning composition. Sometimes, I can "see" the shot before I shoot it, and at other times I have to work a bit harder, either in the field or at my computer.

Aransas National Wildlife Refuge : The day started miserably. It was a challenge just to keep my lens dry, but by late morning the weather cleared, and I was finally able to get some nice shots. I particularly like those of the Whooping Crane, because they are endangered and exist in only a few places in the world. Luckily for me, one of those places is in Texas at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.

Flowers : I consider flowers to be perhaps the most photographed of all the possible subjects on earth. I wonder if the world needs yet another shot of a pretty flower from me. What I will do, though, is present flower shots that I consider to be perhaps a bit more creative, unusual or dare I admit - pretty.
